heartstopper by alice oseman||reviewed in rhapsody

I’m obsessed with this webcomic by one of my favourite writers of all time: Alice Oseman

You may know Alice from her phenomenal book Radio Silence which won the silver inky last year or by her other books Solitaire and her most recent I Was Born For This, all of which you have to read.

Now to fangirl obsessively over this webcomic that Alice has been working on for a couple of years now. It’s called Heartstopper and it has won my heart. It owns my very soul. Everything about it is adorable and perfect and I love it please read it

It’s about a boy named Charlie who goes to an all boys school in the UK (it’s very British as Alice is) He plays the drums, is anxious and kind, isn’t exactly the most popular kid in school, but gets along well with most people. He was bullied pretty badly a couple of years ago but it has died down, but it was gutting for him. He prefers spending time with his small groups of friends and looking at stuff online (I mean, same dude). Charlie falls in love with this boy named Nick. Nick is a tall rugby player with a heart of gold. He has a dog (a very important character in the story) but his friends aren’t exactly the nicest folks. Nick isn’t out to anyone and is quite scared of it. The comic tells the story of how they met, how they fell in love, and their journey of this relationship they have to keep secret. If this hasn’t convinced you to drop everything and read it immediately then I don’t know what will.

I sat down a week or so ago and decided to read it, it’s been on my tbr for a while now and I was like what the hecky may as well read it now. Oh boy oh boy I did not stop reading it until I was 100% up to date. I was literally blushing throughout the entire thing it’s SO ADORABLE. the best romance I have ever read. Also? The diversity??? YES ALL THE YES!!! There’s trans characters and bi characters and biracial characters and single parent characters and honestly Alice Oseman is the best at writing diversity realistically. She just knows how to write believable characters without shoving minority labels on them, but having it be apart of them but not the only defining thing about them. Alice Oseman is just a great writer. So good. Excellent, in fact. One of the best of this age. I might be an obsessive and I reeaaallly need to caaaalm doooown.

So go read Heartstopper, it’s free to read on here, you can also tip her through the site and she’ll get paid for her amazing work: https://tapas.io/series/Heartstopper

You will laugh and those heart strings will be tugged and a few might be broken and I need the new update asap.

Yours truly, from a hopeless romantic

AH YES Radio Silence is one of my all time faves, a few of the characters of Radio Silence actually make a cameo in Heartstopper as its set in the same universe so you can keep an eye out for them!
